Sanni Hantula
My name is Sanni, and I come from Finland. I am currently based in the Netherlands, where I am continuing to work and deepen my knowledge in dog training. I specialise in developing life skills and scent detection work, particularly with high-driven and impulsive dogs.
While I work with a wide variety of breeds, my expertise is strongest when working with herding breeds in ways that respect and make use of their breed-specific traits.
I have mainly owned Belgian Shepherd Malinois, Dutch Shepherds, and working Kelpies.
I want to bring out the very best in dogs and help their unique personalities shine
My training background is not based only on a long hobby and competition history with my own dogs, but also on theoretical knowledge gained through several professional courses I have completed. While theory often explains why we do things the way we do, I strongly value a practical, hands-on approach in both training and teaching.
However, the overall well-being of the dog is always the foundation of my training philosophy. I consider it important to respect breed-specific needs, ensure that natural drives are met, support motivation, and always treat the dog in the best possible way. For this reason, these aspects cannot be skipped when training under my guidance.
As a trainer, I am both precise and understanding
The most rewarding part of my work comes from moments when a dog with challenging behaviour is understood as a whole, when their needs are recognised, and when people are willing to invest in their everyday life to support them. After all, we have chosen to bring dogs into our lives.
I continuously develop my expertise through lectures and training. I always approach different ways of working with an open mind, while also being highly critical of my own practice and teaching.
I have also trained several so-called “project dogs”, where puppies have been placed with new handlers after completing their foundational training with me. I am proud to say that the most recent one is currently working for the Finnish Border Guard.
